The satellite pictured on the pages of this website is the NASA Nimbus-7. It carries the Coastal Zone Color Scanner (CZCS), a radiometer that laid the foundation for new generations of satellite ocean color sensors. The observational data provided by this satellite sensor has been instrumental in better understanding the ocean's role in the global carbon cycle.
