CISL’s Jeffrey Anderson a new AGU fellow

Dr. Jeffrey Anderson, a CISL scientist who leads the Data Assimilation Research Section, has been named an AGU Fellow for developing novel algorithms and computational tools to accelerate discovery in many Earth science applications with data assimilation.

In his 20 years at NCAR, he and his team have developed the Data Assimilation Research Testbed (DART), a community facility that provides data assimilation capabilities in many Earth system models, including most of NCAR’s community models.

Jeff is one of 10 NCAR and UCAR scientists and staff who recently won national awards and distinguished fellowships from the American Geophysical Union (AGU) and the American Meteorological Society (AMS), two of the nation’s leading Earth system science organizations. He is also an AMS Fellow.

“This award recognizes the impact that DART has had on a broad assortment of scientific problems,” he said. “The award would never have happened without the hard work of all DART team members over the past two decades. I’m also very grateful for ongoing support and encouragement from CISL and NCAR leadership.”

Jeff has a Ph.D. in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences from Princeton University, a master’s degree in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley, and a B.S. in Meteorology and Computer Science from the University of Utah.
